Herman J. Smith, a renowned builder and developer from Tarrant County, Texas, held the prestigious position of President in his local, state, and National Association of Home Builders during his lifetime. In 1987, he was honored with induction into the Housing Hall of Fame by the National Association of Home Builders. His generous philanthropic efforts over the years have greatly benefited his church, community, industry, and colleagues. His unwavering leadership and commendable life continue to inspire all those whose lives he influenced. In line with his favorite saying, "always leave the woodpile higher than you found it," the Herman J. Smith/National Housing Endowment Scholarship fund was established to celebrate this remarkable Texan and his lifelong dedication to the housing industry and the education of future home builders.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Herman J. Smith/National Housing Endowment Scholarship, you must be able to affirmatively respond to the following eligibility criteria:
- I am pursuing a major in construction management, mortgage finance, or a related field in construction at an accredited 4-year institution
- I am enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student for the Fall 2022 term and have at least one full academic year of coursework remaining after the scholarship is granted
- I am NOT a high school senior
