Introduction
Dane G. Hansen Scholarships are awarded to eligible students who reside in specified counties of Northwest Kansas. These awards support academic study at accredited four-year colleges and universities in Kansas and honor the values of the late Dane G. Hansen.

Award Summary
- Amount: $6,500 per year
- Renewable: Up to three additional years (total possible support = four years), contingent on meeting renewal criteria
- Number available: Up to 35 Hansen Scholar awards for qualified high school seniors

Eligible Counties
Applicants must live in one of the following Northwest Kansas counties: Cheyenne, Cloud, Decatur, Ellis, Ellsworth, Gove, Graham, Jewell, Lincoln, Logan, Mitchell, Norton, Osborne, Ottawa, Phillips, Rawlins, Republic, Rooks, Russell, Saline, Sheridan, Sherman, Smith, Thomas, Trego, Wallace.

Who May Apply
- Full-time high school seniors graduating in the current academic year from an accredited public high school, registered independent school, private school, or a recognized home-school program located in one of the 26 counties listed above may be considered for the Hansen Leaders of Tomorrow, Hansen Scholar, Hansen Student, and Hansen Career & Technical Education scholarships.
- Students planning to attend college outside of Kansas should not apply.

Academic and Character Requirements
- Applicants for the Hansen Academic Scholarship Test must have completed the ACT and achieved a composite score of 23 or higher (superscores are not accepted).
- For test eligibility, students should have an unweighted high school GPA of at least 3.50.
- Applicants are expected to demonstrate participation in extracurricular and community activities and to show good citizenship, leadership, and moral integrity.

Conditions for Recipients
- Winners must enroll as full-time, on-campus students at an accredited, four-year Kansas public, private, or church-related college or university.
- College transcripts will be reviewed annually. Continued renewal depends on adherence to the Scholarship Committee’s standards, submission of a progress update describing advancement toward educational goals, and maintaining a college GPA of 3.00 or higher.

How to Register for the Qualifying Test
- Before taking the Hansen qualifying test, students must be registered by their high school principal or counselor. No separate, formal application is required for the Hansen Leaders of Tomorrow, Hansen Scholar, or Hansen Student Scholarships beyond this registration.
- The school must submit a list of students who intend to take the qualifying test to the Hansen Foundation Office (Hansen Foundation, Box 187, Logan, Kansas 67646) no later than September 4, 2025.
- Counselors should review the materials and poster included in their packet for the exact test date, time, and location and inform students accordingly.

Materials to Bring on Test Day (student responsibility)
- An official high school transcript showing GPA and class rank (please circle the GPA and rank).
- Proof of a current ACT score of 23 or higher.
- A resume that includes:
1. Current high school courses in which the student is enrolled.
2. College-level courses already completed for credit and any college courses that will be finished by June 1, 2026.
3. Work experience, school extracurricular activities, and community involvement.

References and Interviews
- Students selected for interviews will be notified in writing and instructed to arrange for three reference questionnaires to be submitted on their behalf. Applicants who do not provide three references will not be considered.
- The reference questionnaire is available on the Hansen Foundation website (look for the link in the sidebar or in the upper navigation).

Test Information Distribution
- Details about the time and place of the Hansen Scholarship Test will be provided by the Hansen Foundation to each participating school and to media outlets.
