Overview
Each year Georgia Thespians awards a total of $26,500 in college scholarships to thirteen graduating senior Thespians. The awards recognize achievement across performance, technical craft, leadership, service, innovation, and commitment to theatre education.
Selection notes
Where indicated, recipients are chosen based on materials such as troupe resumes, interviews, auditions, portfolios, and outline resumes of roles/positions held during high school. Special provisions apply to the Theatre Education scholarship (see below).
Scholarships
- Gerald Ray Horne Scholarship — $2,500
- Presented to a well-rounded Thespian who models the qualities of Ray Horne’s career as a director and state leader: service, talent, personality, determination, vision, and compassion.
- Yatesy Harvey Theatre Educator Scholarship — $2,000
- This award recognizes a Thespian intending to major in Theatre Education. Georgia Thespians provides $1,000 and the International Thespian Society contributes an additional $1,000. If, in any given year, there is no clear candidate who merits the award for Theatre Education, the interview panel may instead allocate the scholarship based on performance and portfolio.
- Frank Pruet & Eric Ebell Vision and Innovation Scholarship for Leadership — $2,000
- Given to the Thespian who best evidences exceptional leadership, innovation, and vision as demonstrated through the troupe resume and interview.
- Pam Ware Leadership Scholarship — $2,000
- Awarded to the Thespian who, via troupe resume and interview, best demonstrates outstanding leadership to their troupe, school, state, and/or community—reflecting the dedication to excellence and professional spirit associated with director Pam Ware.
- Linda P. Wise Performance Scholarship — $2,000
- Conferred on a Thespian who shows exceptional performance ability, judged through an audition and an outline resume listing roles and positions performed throughout high school, in memory of director and educator Linda P. Wise.
- Gene & Imelda Bell Service Scholarship — $2,000
- Presented to the Thespian who most clearly demonstrates outstanding service to their troupe, school, state, and community, based on the troupe resume and interview.
- Dwight Gilstrap Technical Scholarship — $2,000
- Awarded to a student committed to technical theatre, as proven by a technical portfolio and interview that reflect outstanding work and understanding of technical disciplines.
- Paul Hampton Heart of a Thespian Scholarship — $2,000
- Given to the Thespian who best embodies Paul Hampton’s deep dedication, creativity, and genuine passion for theatre and fellow Thespians.
- Five Achievement Scholarships — $2,000 each
- Five separate awards granted to Thespians who have distinguished themselves in any area of the dramatic arts and are deserving of special recognition for their theatrical accomplishments.
