Real World Design Challenge Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by Real World Design Challenge
Overview
The Real World Design Challenge (RWDC) is a yearly engineering competition for high school students in grades 9–12. Participating teams tackle authentic engineering problems faced by major industries, using industry-standard engineering software to build solutions. In addition to technical work, teams prepare presentations that clearly communicate the value of their designs. RWDC is intended to give students a chance to apply classroom learning to real workplace challenges in a collaborative team setting.
Eligibility
- High school students in grades 9 through 12.
How to participate — four key steps
1) Start with the Getting Started page
- Visit the Getting Started page first. It contains essential resources about the current year’s challenge and points you to tools and reference material you will need.
2) Study the Challenge Materials
- Carefully read and understand the official challenge documents. These materials define the problem your team will address.
3) Develop your solution and compile an Engineering Design Notebook (EDN)
- Your team must prepare an Engineering Design Notebook; judges will evaluate your submission based on the contents of the EDN.
- Consult the Scoring Rubric early and use its headings as the section titles in your EDN. Conduct research and design work targeted at satisfying the items listed in the rubric, and complete each notebook section as you finish the related work.
- The Getting Started page also provides access to recommended software, recorded webinars, and a survey to support your team’s work.
4) Submit your entry by the deadline
- Turn in your completed Engineering Design Notebook to your State Coordinator and to Jeff Coppola before the submission deadline.
Awards
- Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University will provide $50,000 scholarships to each student on the International Champion team.*
- *Each student may receive this $50,000 scholarship only once; if a student is part of multiple champion teams, the scholarship is awarded a single time.
