Introduction
The Scott and Kim Verplank Foundation awards annual, renewable undergraduate scholarships of up to $10,000 to help pay for tuition, student fees, and textbooks. Awards are available to students starting their first year of college (current college students are not eligible) and may be renewed each year for up to four years for any individual recipient, provided renewal requirements are met. Recipients are chosen from applicants who satisfy the eligibility and application requirements described below.
Eligibility requirements (minimum)
- High school senior (not currently enrolled full-time in college).
- Diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in childhood.
- Demonstrated management of diabetes through appropriate medication, exercise, and diet.
- Commitment to academics demonstrated by maintaining a cumulative GPA above 3.0.
- Active participation on an organized athletic team (commitment to athletics).
- United States citizen.
- Submission of a completed application including all requested supporting documents and endorsements.
General details and deadlines
- Applications open on January 1 of the student’s senior year in high school.
- Award recipients must maintain at least a 3.0 GPA through graduation to retain the scholarship.
- To be considered for awards beginning in the fall 2026 term, the Foundation must receive your completed application no later than April 15, 2026. Applications received after April 15, 2026 will not be reviewed.
Application review process and timeline
- After submitting a complete application you will receive an on-screen confirmation that the Foundation has received it.
- The Foundation compiles an Applicant Portfolio from the submitted materials and reviews those portfolios to determine scholarship recipients. Only information provided on the application or specifically requested by the Foundation will be used in the review.
- Do not send unsolicited materials; any information not requested will not be reviewed or added to the application.
- Portfolio reviews for qualified applications begin in April.
- During the evaluation process the Foundation may request additional information from applicants, which could include a Supplemental Survey and a Budget form.
