Introduction
The Law Office of Ronald D. Weiss, P.C. offers incoming and continuing college and graduate students a chance to receive part of $6,500 in scholarship awards, distributed twice each year. Each Spring and Fall the firm runs an Essay Contest and selects three (3) winners.
Prizes and schedule
Total available per contest: $6,500, awarded as:
- 1st prize — $3,500
- 2nd prize — $2,000
- 3rd prize — $1,000
Selection process and essay topics
Winners are chosen based on an essay in which applicants take a position on a topic specific to that contest. Each installment features a different prompt that addresses contemporary legal and policy questions related to debt relief. Essays must engage with U.S. laws and policies.
Eligibility requirements
To be considered, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Good academic standing: Currently be in good standing at your educational institution.
- Minors: Applicants under age 18 must have parental or guardian permission to apply.
- Citizenship/residency: Students who are not U.S. citizens and those studying outside the United States are welcome to participate.
- Language and legal focus: All materials submitted, including the essay, must be in English, and the essay must be grounded in U.S. law and policy.
- Accredited program: You must be enrolled now or planning to enroll next year in a recognized academic program that provides instruction to a student body. Programs may be online or part-time and may be at institutions outside the United States. To qualify, the program must be at least six (6) months in length and lead to a certificate or degree.
