Vera Asay Sargent Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Wyoming Community Foundation
Introduction / Background
Vera Asay Sargent was born and raised in Lovell, Wyoming. During the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s she raised three children on her own (two daughters and one son), working for the CB&Q railroad and taking on various jobs in Lovell to provide for her family. Her steadfast objective was to see her children graduate from high school and continue on to college — a goal she achieved. In the 1950s a railroad transfer brought her to Worland, where she met and later married Newell B. Sargent. Together they established one of the largest Pepsi Cola businesses in the Rocky Mountain region and were active participants in Worland community life.
