Moore County Gin Doug Nix Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship opportunity is open to graduating high school seniors from Channing, Dalhart, Dumas, Stratford, and Sunray High Schools who are planning to pursue a major in Agriculture at any accredited two or four-year college/university in the United States. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required to be eligible for application.

The Moore County Gin members established this scholarship in 2009 to honor the memory of Mr. Doug Nix. Mr. Nix was a farmer in the Texas Panhandle for over half a century and received numerous awards throughout his illustrious farming career. He was the founder and a key partner of the Carson County Gin, the Moore County Gin, and the Amarillo Cotton Warehouse.
Eligibility Criteria
- The applicant must be a graduating high school senior from Channing, Dalhart, Dumas, Stratford, or Sunray High Schools; and
- Must have a cumulative high school GPA of 75 or above (equivalent to 3.0 on a 4.0 scale).
Scholarship Value
The scholarship provides $500 per semester for up to two semesters.
Conditions for Scholarship
The following conditions must be met for each semester's payment:
- The recipient must enroll in college in the fall semester immediately after selection;
- Must maintain full-time student status (usually 12 credit hours per semester for undergraduate studies);
- Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher while in college; and
- Must attend any accredited college/university and major in Agriculture.
