About Dean
Dean was a devoted civic leader in the Mt. Pleasant area and played an influential role throughout Isabella County. Over the years he held multiple leadership posts: he served as president of the Mt. Pleasant Lions Club, the Mt. Pleasant Jaycees, and the Mt. Pleasant Area Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the City Commission from 1961 to 1966 and held the office of mayor in 1964 and again in 1966. Dean also served on the Board of Directors for American Security Bank and was a former director of both the Eagle Village, Inc. Foundation and the Mid Michigan Community College Foundation. In recognition of his local contributions, he was named Outstanding Citizen of the Year in 1969.
Dean’s commitment to his hometown continued after his death in 2011 when the Eckersley Scholarship Fund was created to support Mt. Pleasant students pursuing further education.
