The Miami Police Department’s Do The Right Thing (DTRT) initiative is offering a memorial scholarship to support young adults who want to pursue a career in law enforcement. The program honors the legacy of a cherished officer who died in 2011 and aims to help community-minded applicants train as City of Miami police officers.
About the Scholarship
Named the Senior Police Executive Angel Calzadilla/Do The Right Thing Police Memorial Scholarship, this award was created to commemorate Senior Police Executive Angel Calzadilla. Calzadilla passed away at age 48 after a long, private battle with cystic fibrosis. The scholarship continues his memory by assisting aspiring officers.
What the Award Provides
Each year DTRT selects one recipient and will pay up to $6,100 in tuition toward enrollment at the City of Miami Police Academy.
Eligibility
Applicants should be young adults between the ages of 18 and 22 who are interested in serving the community as police officers. The scholarship is administered through Do The Right Thing, an organization recognized for rewarding local youths for positive behavior and constructive actions.
