Lou Manzione Scholarship

Introduction
The Atlantic Amateur Hockey Association (AAHA), the Atlantic Affiliate of USA Hockey, administers a scholarship program established in memory of Lou Manzione (1944–2003). The program supports students who intend to pursue education after high school.
Scholarship awards
Two non-renewable scholarships of $1,000 each will be granted: one to a New Jersey high school female senior and one to a New Jersey high school male senior. Recipients must be registered members of USA Hockey and active on a travel hockey team affiliated with the AAHA.
About Lou Manzione
Lou Manzione was an influential leader in AAHA hockey. He served four years as AAHA Vice President for Rules and Regulations and was President of the New Jersey Youth Hockey League for more than a decade. Lou coached at the high school level—Hudson Catholic High School (1995–1998) and Toms River High School (1998–2003)—and he also coached in the Brick Hockey Club travel program and for the USA Hockey Festival Program. He was especially devoted to coaching high school players and to fostering both their on-ice growth and their commitment to education. Lou is survived by his wife of 33 years, three children, and is fondly remembered throughout the AAHA community.
Who may apply
- Current high school seniors who live in New Jersey.
- Must be registered with USA Hockey.
- Must play on an AAHA-registered travel hockey team.
Applicants are considered without regard to race, religion, or financial need. Note: two awards will be made—one female and one male recipient.
Selection process
The Scholarship Committee’s decisions are final. Selection will be made based on:
- High school transcript (grades, GPA, class rank)
- Standardized test scores (SAT, ACT, etc.)
- A typed essay, 500 words or fewer, on the topic: “The Value of Hockey to My Personal Development.”
Notification and acceptance
- Award winners will be notified by email in May using the address provided on the application. Only selected recipients will be contacted.
- Each recipient must accept the scholarship in writing by the deadline stated in the notification and must provide a copy of the acceptance letter to the school they plan to attend.

Complete the online application and upload the following attachments. Each file must be labeled using your First and Last Name and the document type (for example: Jim Smith-Transcript; Jim Smith-Essay).

- Headshot photo in .jpg format (used if you are selected)
- Essay (typed, 500 words or less)
Important instructions
- Applications that do not follow these instructions will not be reviewed.
- Do not submit the same application to both the Lou Manzione Scholarship and the USA Hockey High School Player Scholarship. New Jersey applicants must apply to the Lou Manzione Scholarship. Applicants from Pennsylvania or Delaware should apply through the USA Hockey High School Player Scholarship.
