Nebraska Academy of Sciences High School Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by Nebraska Academy of Sciences
The Nebraska Academy of Sciences offers four annual scholarships for high school seniors. The total disbursed each year is $2,250; in even-numbered years the Marian O. and Bertrand Schultz award is given, while in odd-numbered years the Marian Schultz Memorial Environmental Scholarship is awarded (the other three scholarships are offered every year).
Eligibility and general requirements (apply unless a scholarship specifies otherwise)
- Open to high school seniors as noted in each award description
- Two recommendations from teachers and/or school administrators
- Official high school transcript
- Proof of college acceptance as specified for each award
- Where requested, a list of academic honors and community service activities
Loren Eiseley Memorial Scholarship — $500
- Eligibility: Any Nebraska high school senior who has been accepted to an accredited college or university
- Required materials:
- An 800–1,000 word essay reflecting on how at least two of Loren Eiseley’s essays connect to your personal and career path, with examples that show Eiseley’s compassion for living things and his perspective on humanity’s place in the universe
- Two teacher and/or administrator recommendations
- High school transcript
- A list naming at least two Eiseley essays you have read
- Evidence of acceptance to an accredited college or university
Robert S. Kubicek Memorial Scholarship — $1,000
- Eligibility: Any Nebraska high school senior, OR a senior at Henry County High School (Paris, TN), OR a senior at Colegio San Felipe High School (Arecibo, Puerto Rico), with an interest in business and environmental topics
- Required materials:
- An 800–1,000 word essay on the responsibilities businesses have to the environment in which they operate
- Two teacher and/or administrator recommendations
- High school transcript
- A list of scholastic achievements and community service
- Evidence of acceptance to an accredited college or university
Marian O. and Bertrand Schultz Scholarship — $750 (awarded in even-numbered years)
- Eligibility: Any Nebraska high school senior interested in climate and environmental change
- Required materials:
- An 800–1,000 word essay describing environmental changes in the central Great Plains since the 1880s, with emphasis on Nebraska
- Two teacher and/or administrator recommendations
- High school transcript
- A list of scholastic achievements and community service
- Evidence of acceptance to the University of Nebraska as a full-time student
Marian Schultz Memorial Environmental Scholarship — $750 (awarded in odd-numbered years)
- Eligibility: Any Nebraska high school senior with a particular interest in prairie and soil conservation
- Required materials (choose one of the first two options):
- Documentation of hands-on prairie and soil conservation practices gained through field experience, or
- An 800–1,000 word essay that demonstrates your understanding of prairie and soil conservation
- Two teacher and/or administrator recommendations
- High school transcript
- A list of scholastic achievements and community service
- Evidence of acceptance to the University of Nebraska as a full-time student
