TFB Collegiate Scholarships — Overview and Eligibility
Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) offers a variety of scholarships for high school seniors, undergraduate students, and those preparing for careers in agriculture and veterinary medicine. Below are the programs available, the award amounts, and the eligibility criteria for each opportunity.
High School Student Opportunities
High school students may apply for the following TFB awards:
- TFB District Honorary/Memorial Scholarships
- TFB Young Farmer & Rancher Scholarship for High School Students
- TFB Dick Mitchell Memorial Scholarship
- Jana Middleton Student Success Series Memorial Scholarship
Mia Balko Student Teaching Scholarship
- Renamed to honor the late Mia Balko, former TFB director of youth outreach and scholarship coordinator, and a former agricultural science teacher.
- Four scholarships awarded each semester to senior agricultural education students who are completing off-campus student teaching.
- Each award is $6,000 to help cover expenses during the student teaching semester.
- Students scheduled for off-campus student teaching in spring 2026 are encouraged to apply.
S.M. True, Jr. Agricultural Scholar Award
- Established to honor former TFB President S.M. True Jr.
- One primary award of $25,000 for an undergraduate student who has completed at least 60 semester hours and is majoring in agriculture.
- Four additional finalists will each receive a $5,000 scholarship.
- Applicants must be part of a Farm Bureau member-family for a minimum of three years at the time they apply.
- Students are encouraged to apply at the end of their sophomore year for TFB’s most prestigious scholarship.
Young Farmer & Rancher (YF&R) Scholarship — Enrolled College Students
- Intended for students already enrolled in an undergraduate program who plan to pursue an agricultural career.
- Applicants must have completed at least 30 credit hours and maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA.
- Three scholarships of $2,500 each will be awarded.
Rural Veterinary Scholarship
- In its second year of offering this program.
- Four scholarships of $20,000 each will be awarded; four finalists will receive $2,500 each.
- Eligible applicants are second- or third-year veterinary students enrolled at Texas A&M University or Texas Tech University with a minimum GPA of 2.5.
- Recipients must intend to practice in a rural and/or food animal setting in Texas after graduation.
