Excellence in Ethics Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Simmons and Fletcher, P.C.
Simmons and Fletcher, P.C. invites current and prospective law students to apply for our annual Excellence in Ethics Scholarship. Two awards will be made: a first-place prize of $1,000 and a second-place prize of $500.
Eligibility
- Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.
- Must be currently enrolled in or already accepted to a U.S. law school.
- Must not have been a recipient of this scholarship in the previous year.
- Must submit a completed application and an essay that meets the requirements below.
- The submitted essay file must be in Microsoft Word format and the filename must include the applicant’s name.
- Incomplete or nonconforming submissions will not be considered.
Essay requirements
- Length: minimum 1,000 words.
- Format: Microsoft Word document.
- Topic: Discuss the importance of pro bono legal work. Referencing the encouragement of pro bono service by the Texas State Bar and other state bar organizations is appropriate. Essays should explain why providing free legal representation to those who cannot afford it matters for individuals, the community, and the integrity of the legal system.
- By submitting, applicants agree that if selected as a winner, their essay may be published on our blog.
Deadlines and notification
- Submission deadline: July 1 each year (completed application and essay must be received by this date).
- Winners will be notified by email and publicly announced (via our website, social media, and an official press release) on or before August 1 each year.
