Susan Howard Community Service Award

The purpose of the Susan Howard Community Service Award is to honor and reward academically adept students from low income families in Texas or Great Britain who have demonstrated initiative and leadership skills through their dedication to benefiting their community.
Susan Howard, President of BAFTX for 9 years, ran the organization until 2017 with passion and dedication, growing it to be a great success. Our Susan Howard Community Service Award was set up in her memory, to award those who, like her, champion and support their community.
In memory of Susan Howard, Founder of the British American Foundation of Texas, this award honors young adults who have shown initiative and tenacity in conceptualizing, initiating, and/or organizing a community service project. Recipients must demonstrate leadership skills through a project that impacts the community and clearly benefits or provides inspirational value to others. The award, in an amount of $5,000 will be applied directly to the recipient's institution of higher education or held in escrow if applicable. Funds need to be used for tuition only.

Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be a resident of Texas or the United Kingdom;
- Be enrolled in full-time education within the Texas or UK education system;
- Be aged between 11 and 21;
- Currently work on an inspiring community service project or have done so within the past 12 months;
- Come from a low-income household.
- Maintain a competitive academic record and an excellent school attendance record.
- Be able to attend an Awards Dinner to receive the award in Houston on April 24th 2025.
Applicants need to provide:
- Application form;
- Reference letter;
- Letter of recommendation;
- School transcript;
- Evidence of financial need;
- Essay.
Please note that the deadline for applications is 12pm on March 31st and we cannot accept incomplete or late forms.
