Zell Miller Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by GAfutures
Overview
The Zell Miller Scholarship is a merit-based award that pays the standard undergraduate tuition rate at public colleges and universities in Georgia and provides tuition assistance at qualifying private postsecondary institutions. Academic eligibility depends on the accreditation and location of the high school or home-school program from which the student graduated. See the Initial Academic Eligibility requirements for the Zell Miller Scholarship for details.
Initial award and ongoing maintenance
To receive the Zell Miller Scholarship following high school graduation and to keep it while enrolled, a student must satisfy the following baseline requirements:
1. U.S. citizenship or eligible noncitizen status.
2. Meet Georgia residency requirements as required by the postsecondary institution.
3. Be enrolled as a degree-seeking student at an eligible institution in Georgia (University System of Georgia — USG, Technical College System of Georgia — TCSG, or an eligible private college/university that participates in the Zell Miller program).
4. Comply with federal Selective Service registration rules, as required by Georgia law. This registration requirement applies to males who were born on or after January 1, 1960, are at least 18 years old, and are citizens or eligible non-citizens who entered the United States before turning 26.
5. Satisfy the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy of the eligible postsecondary institution.
6. Be in good standing on all student loans and other financial aid obligations.
7. Be in compliance with the Georgia Drug-Free Postsecondary Education Act of 1990.
8. Not have exceeded the maximum award limits for any HOPE program.
Important notice about defaults and refunds
A student cannot be eligible for the Zell Miller Scholarship if they are in default on any federal or State of Georgia student loan, grant, or scholarship. Any defaulted federal or Georgia student loan must be repaid in full or otherwise resolved before eligibility can be determined. Likewise, a student must not owe a refund to any State of Georgia scholarship or grant program; any required refund must be paid in full before Zell Miller eligibility can be established.
