Gilberto and Lennetta Pesquera Scholarship

Introduction
The Glens Falls Foundation’s Gilberto and Lennetta Pesquera Fund provides annual scholarship assistance to qualified medical students who graduated from local area schools and are actively enrolled in medical school. Awards are intended to help cover educational costs and are normally $4,000 per year, though the final amount may change depending on the number of qualified applicants and available funds. Scholarship funds are limited to tuition, fees, books and supplies. Award payments are issued directly to recipients by the end of July.
Eligibility
- Open to medical students in their first, second, third or fourth year who graduated from local area schools and are currently enrolled in medical school.
Application materials and requirements
All submissions received by the deadline will be reviewed by the Pesquera Scholarship Committee. In every case, the applicant must arrange for an official copy of his or her current academic record/transcript to be sent directly from the medical school to the Committee Chair.
Required documents
- Completed and signed 3-page application form.
- Official medical school transcript sent directly from the school (electronically or in a sealed envelope).
- First-time applicants must also provide:
- Names, phone numbers, and email addresses of two personal references (not family members) who can speak to character, motivation and potential.
- A short paragraph describing the medical fields of interest and career objectives.
- Re-applicants must provide:
- The updated paragraph that outlines current areas of medical interest and career goals. References are not required for re-applicants.

- All application materials (including the paragraph, references where required, and the transcript) must be submitted by the fourth Friday of June.
- Final decisions and replies to applicants will be communicated by the fourth Friday of July.
Notes
- Payments are restricted to tuition, fees, books and supplies and will be remitted directly to the student by the end of July.
- The scholarship amount is typically $4,000 per year but may vary with applicant pool and available funding.
