E Lanier Finch Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Georgia Association of Broadcasters
In honor of the late Lanny Finch, a figure of exceptional leadership and dedication, the Georgia Association of Broadcasters (GAB) decided to pay tribute to his numerous contributions that have significantly contributed to the association's ongoing success. As a result, in 2005, the GAB reinstated its scholarship program, which benefits both member stations and students. The GAB E. Lanier (Lanny) Finch Scholarship Foundation was established as a testament to Lanny's legacy.
The GAB Scholarship Foundation awards scholarships of $1,500 each, with up to five scholarships being granted annually. Eligibility criteria require applicants to be full-time students at an accredited college or university, rising juniors or seniors pursuing a degree in a broadcasting-related field, and legitimate residents of Georgia.
Purpose of the Scholarship
The scholarships aim to provide financial support to deserving students who will uphold the tradition of excellence in Georgia's broadcasting industry. The objectives of the scholarship fund are multi-dimensional:
A) To inspire a higher level of professionalism within the broadcasting industry.
B) To cultivate a more robust connection between academia and the profession.
C) To enhance the understanding of journalistic ethics and the societal responsibilities of broadcasters.
D) To endorse commitment and potential in the broadcasters of the future.
Criteria for Scholarship Selection
The selection of successful candidates will be made by participating GAB member stations. All fields within the broadcasting industry will be considered equally, with allowances made for different levels of experience. The selection process will take into account academic records, involvement in extracurricular activities, community engagement, and leadership potential. The selection will be free from discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex, or age.
