IWLA National Conservation Scholarship

Scholarship Sponsored by Izaak Walton League of America

Value: $2,500.00
Awards Available: 2

Introduction
The Izaak Walton League of America created the National Conservation Scholarship in 2005 to encourage and recognize conservation leadership among students preparing for careers in natural resource management and related professions. This national award is intended to support the next generation of conservationists and environmental stewards.

Purpose and connection to the League’s mission
Aligned with the IWLA’s mission “to conserve, restore, and promote the sustainable use and enjoyment of our natural resources, including soil, air, woods, waters, and wildlife,” the scholarship advances the League’s long‑standing commitment to education. By supporting student leaders and raising awareness of conservation issues, the League helps safeguard natural resources for future generations.

Who is eligible
The scholarship is aimed at college undergraduates who will be rising juniors or seniors and who are enrolled in accredited programs focused on conservation or environmental sciences. Eligible fields include, but are not limited to:
- Environmental science, engineering, or education
- Natural resource management
- Forestry
- Wildlife biology and related wildlife studies
- Fisheries science
- Parks and recreation management
- Range management
- Other earth and life science disciplines such as ecology, conservation biology (including field or marine), geology, hydrology, and zoology

Relationship to other IWLA awards
The National Conservation Scholarship complements the variety of scholarships distributed each year by IWLA local chapters and state divisions. In addition to financial assistance, these League awards offer recipients encouragement and networking with fellow conservation-minded members.

Award funding and benefits
This national scholarship is funded annually through a grant from the Izaak Walton League of America Endowment, Inc., along with support from IWLA members. Up to two scholarships may be awarded in the United States each year — one for each of two qualification categories. Each award includes up to $2,500 in scholarship funding, an engraved plaque, and a one‑year IWLA Student membership (either new or renewed).
