Introduction
The You First Foundation provides financial support to families affected by traumatic medical events. Each year the foundation offers scholarships of up to $6,000 to deserving students. Since the scholarship program began, more than $200,000 has been awarded.
About the Foundation
You First Foundation was established by employees of First Service Credit Union following the death of a coworker and dear friend from a brain aneurysm. The foundation’s mission is to enhance the lives and educational prospects of people impacted by traumatic medical events.
Who is Eligible
This scholarship is open to learners of any age who wish to continue their education. Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
- Be a resident of Texas.
- Provide a high school diploma or GED.
- Be enrolled in, or planning to enroll in, an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational school in the United States. Both part-time and full-time students may apply.
- Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7.
- Submit two letters of recommendation.
- If applicable, include college, university, or vocational school transcripts.
Application timeline and selection
Applications will be accepted beginning April 19, 2023 via the online link provided below. The submission deadline is May 31, 2023. The You First Foundation Scholarship Committee — an independent panel made up of foundation board members — will review all applications and choose the recipient. The selected applicant will be notified by the end of June 2023.
Award distribution and application instructions
Scholarship awards are up to $6,000 and will be paid directly to the recipient’s educational institution. The 2023 submission window closes Wednesday, May 31, 2023. Applications sent by email, hand delivery, or mail will not be accepted; only submissions through the specified online link will be considered.
