Zonta District 10 Women in STEM Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Zonta International District 10
Overview: The past century has seen a significant surge in the opportunities accessible to women, marking a notable stride in their progress. However, the representation of women in leadership roles within the realms of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) remains disproportionately low. As per the National Science Foundation's 2015 report on Women, Minorities, and Persons with Disabilities in Science and Engineering, women account for over half of the bachelor's degrees in biological sciences. However, their representation dwindles in computer sciences (18.2%), engineering (19.2%), physics (19.1%), and mathematics and statistics (43.1%).
With this in mind, the Zonta International Women in STEM Scholarship aims to inspire women to undertake higher education in science, technology, engineering, or math. Simultaneously, it seeks to promote leadership accomplishments in these fields and a commitment to enhancing the status of women.
