Design for Recovery is pleased to announce a $1000 scholarship opportunity for college students from all fields of study. We are particularly interested in hearing from those who have been touched by the scourge of addiction. We invite you to share a narrative of 500-1000 words detailing your personal encounter with addiction by October 25, 2021. We are keen to understand how addiction has shaped your life, its impact on those around you, and the measures you've undertaken to reclaim your life from the clutches of addiction.
Your narrative can revolve around any form of addiction. It could be about your struggle with prescription opioids, heroin, alcohol, cocaine, or even sleeping pills. We believe that your story has the potential to resonate deeply with others. We are interested in knowing how you broke free from the relentless cycle of addiction. What obstacles did you encounter? What prompted you to seek help? Did you find solace in a sober living home? How do you maintain your sobriety today, and what kind of challenges do you face as a recovering individual? Sharing our stories is a powerful tool in maintaining sobriety. Your experiences, strength, and hope can provide invaluable support to those grappling with addiction and feeling desolate.
We welcome a wide range of stories related to addiction. You need not have personally battled addiction. At Design for Recovery, we understand that substance use disorders have a ripple effect, impacting not just the individual but also their loved ones. Often, it's the close friends and family members who bear the brunt of the pain. There's nothing more heart-wrenching than witnessing a loved one self-destruct.
If you've had a loved one struggle with a substance use disorder, your perspective can shed light on many aspects. How did their addiction affect you? How can one love an addicted person in a healthy manner? What kind of boundaries did you establish - or fail to establish? How did you surmount the challenges? Did they recover? Did you contribute to their recovery? How has your experience with a loved one's addiction influenced your own life? We are eager to hear your responses to these questions.
Why are we providing this $1000 scholarship?
At Design for Recovery, we firmly believe that education is a powerful tool for individuals recovering from a substance use disorder. It can stimulate the mind, pave the way for a new career, and foster a robust social support network. However, we also acknowledge that college can be a challenging environment for those in early recovery. Our goal is to assist students who are striving to balance their education with their sobriety. By extending a helping hand, we hope to play a crucial role in their journey.
We look forward to receiving your narratives by October 25, 2021. Design for Recovery will carefully review each 500-1000 word narrative and award the scholarship to one deserving student by December 1, 2021.
