AREMA Educational Foundation Scholarships

Intro Applicants should demonstrate an interest in railway engineering and meet the academic and enrollment requirements described below. The AREMA Scholarship Review Committee will use the single 2026 application to assess eligibility for all AREMA scholarships and will try to recognize students across AREMA’s various interest areas. Completed applications are due December 12, 2025. Eligibility (general) - Minimum cumulative GPA: 2.5. - Must be available for an interview with the AREMA Scholarship Committee. - Enrolled in an accredited* four- or five-year engineering or engineering-technology program (undergraduate or graduate). Students must have completed at least one quarter or one semester in their current degree program. - The Scholarship Review Committee will decide which specific scholarship(s) an applicant qualifies for using the 2026 application form. Accreditation note - Accredited programs are those recognized by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) or an equivalent accrediting organization in Canada or Mexico. Awards and historic funding - Final award amounts may change year to year. In 2025, the AREMA Educational Foundation distributed $37,000 in scholarships (seven awards of $1,000; eight awards of $2,500; two awards of $5,000). - AREMA Educational Foundation General Scholarships are offered at a minimum of $2,500 each. Scholarships governed by the general criteria - AREMA Educational Foundation General Scholarships (minimum $2,500 each) - Canadian National Railway Company Scholarship ($1,000) - CSX Scholarship ($1,000) Scholarships with additional, specific requirements - New York Central Railroad Memorial Scholarship ($1,000) - Preference given to a student from Clarkson University. - Norfolk Southern Foundation Scholarship ($1,000) - Applicant’s institution must be located within Norfolk Southern’s service area. - North Carolina Railroad Company Scholarship ($1,000) - Applicant must be a North Carolina resident for tuition purposes and enrolled at a North Carolina college or university. - Union Pacific — William E. Wimmer Scholarship ($1,000) - For undergraduate students. Applicant’s institution must be located in Union Pacific’s service area. - William E. and Barbara I. Van Trump Scholarship ($1,000) - For female students; preference for undergraduates and for students attending institutions in Union Pacific’s service area. *Programs accredited by ABET or a comparable organization in Canada or Mexico.
