TMA Diversity in Medicine Scholarship

Overview
Each Texas medical school will have a single $10,000 scholarship available to support incoming students who are underrepresented in Texas medical schools and in the state’s physician workforce.
Eligibility
- Applicants must belong to groups underrepresented in Texas medical education and the physician workforce; applicants with DACA status are eligible.
- Current medical students are not eligible. The award is intended for individuals who have been accepted to begin medical school in the fall of the award year.
Application requirements
- Submit a completed scholarship application.
- Provide written confirmation (letter or email) of an acceptance offer and your intent to enroll.
- Submit an essay, up to 750 words, describing how you would work as a physician to improve the health of all Texans.
Funding and administration
- The TMA Foundation will manage fundraising for this scholarship.
- Award payments of $2,500 will be sent directly to the recipient’s medical school each year for the first four consecutive years of the student’s standard matriculation.
- If a student withdraws, takes a leave of absence, or repeats a year, any remaining installments will be forfeited.
Additional conditions
- The scholarship is awarded per medical school and will not follow a student who transfers or matriculates at a different institution.
