FutureSmart Scholarship

Introduction
If you’re enrolled in FutureSmart, you can enter the scholarship contest for a chance to win a gift card to fund a 529 college savings plan. During the spring term, 25 students will be awarded $1,000 gift cards and 35 students will be awarded $5,000 gift cards.
Who can enter
Students who have taken FutureSmart are eligible. The lessons referred to below are those from FutureSmart or SmartEconomics, both provided by the MassMutual Foundation.
How to enter (quick steps)
1) Finish at least three lessons from either the FutureSmart or SmartEconomics curriculum.
2) Write and submit a single short essay describing what you learned and how the course affected you. One entry per person.
Essay details and requirements
- Length: 350–500 words.
- After completing at least three lessons, answer exactly one of the questions below in a specific, thoughtful way that connects the financial skills you learned to your future plans and goals.
- Limit: one submission per student.
Choose one question to respond to
1) In what ways will FutureSmart or SmartEconomics influence the choices you make going forward? Describe two specific changes in your attitude or behavior that resulted from the course.
2) What are your goals for the future (examples: college, travel, volunteer work, dream career)? Explain how FutureSmart or SmartEconomics has prepared you to pursue those goals, with concrete examples.
3) Which financial skills from the course do you consider most important for planning your financial future? If you taught these skills to your family or community, how could it change their financial outlook?
Selection and prizes
A panel of judges will review all eligible essays and select a total of 60 student winners over the school year (25 recipients of $1,000 and 35 recipients of $5,000, credited as gift cards to a 529 college savings account).

Entries for the spring semester must be received by May 31, 2026.
