Alamo Chapter Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by Alamo Chapter
Overview
The Alamo Chapter provides $1,000 scholarships in four distinct categories each year.
Scholarship Categories
1. College ROTC cadets — includes the LtCol Edward & Mrs. Ruby Marvin AF ROTC scholarship.
2. High school JROTC cadets — includes the General Garza "Let’s Go" Scholarships, General Robert Herring Scholarship, Colonel Edmond McCarthy Scholarship, and the Mrs. Susie Tolman Scholarship.
3. COL Clarence Torrey Scholarship — awarded to a Bexar County student who has a military family member.
4. MAJ James and Mrs. Cheryl Cunningham Scholarship — for a dependent of an active MOAA-Alamo Chapter member.
Selection Process
Winners for the college ROTC scholarships are chosen by the recipient’s detachment or battalion commander. Nominees for the COL Clarence Torrey Scholarship are submitted to the chapter by the Minnie Piper Foundation through the Bexar County Scholarship Clearing House; high school guidance counselors can provide those specifics. Recipients of the remaining awards are selected by the MOAA-Alamo Chapter Scholarship Committee.
