Betty Hansen National Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Danish Sisterhood of America
Introduction
The Danish Sisterhood of America proudly administers scholarship and grant programs available to members and their children of any age. These awards are funded through endowments and memorial gifts, with additional support from contributions made by individual members, lodges, and districts of the National Sisterhood. Membership dues are not used to finance these scholarships.
Funding restrictions and donor stipulations
When the scholarship and grant funds were created, the donors—many with close connections to the Danish Sisterhood—specified eligibility conditions that the organization is legally required to follow. The continued existence of the program relies on investment performance and ongoing donations; contributions are therefore essential and gratefully received.
Application deadlines and award timing
- All scholarship applications must be postmarked by March 1. Awards are intended for study beginning in the fall of the application year.
- Verification of enrollment (Matriculation) must be submitted by October 31 for the first semester and by December 15 for the second semester.
Limits and priority
- An individual may receive no more than two National Scholarships in total. (Exception: the Elizabeth Garde National Scholarship may be awarded only once to the same person.)
- First-time applicants will be given preference over previous recipients.
Scholarship offerings
There are five distinct scholarships available through the program; one of these currently provides up to six awards annually.
