New Mexico Nurse Practitioner Council Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by New Mexico Nurse Practitioner Council
Introduction
NMNPC members are invited to apply for scholarship awards annually. The application period runs from December 1 through January 31. These scholarships support RN students preparing to become nurse practitioners as well as practicing NPs who are pursuing advanced nursing degrees, in alignment with the New Mexico Nurse Practitioner Council’s mission. Additional funding from the New Mexico Board of Nursing (NMBON) allows NMNPC to expand the number of awards available.
Available awards
- Four Candelario Garcia scholarships — $3,000 each (for RN applicants)
- One Myrna Wood scholarship — $3,000 (for RN applicants)
- Four Carol Lee Taylor scholarships — $3,000 each (for NP applicants)

Additional criteria by applicant type
RN applicants
- Must be enrolled in a program that leads to NP licensure.
- If applying for both RN-designated scholarships, you may receive only one award; applying to multiple increases the chance of receiving a scholarship but does not increase the number awarded to an individual.
NP applicants
- Currently enrolled in a doctoral program focused on nursing practice or research (for example, NP-to-DNP or NP-to-PhD).
- NMNPC membership for at least two years prior to the application.
- Minimum of two years’ experience as an NP.
Timeline
- Application period: December 1 – January 31 (annually)
- Applicants notified of awards: by March 1
- Signed scholarship agreement due from recipients: by March 6
- Scholarship funds mailed to recipients: by April 1
