For graduating high school seniors in the top 26 counties of the Texas Panhandle who plan to attend Amarillo College or West Texas A&M University. Any student with a GPA of 80 or better (on a 100-point scale) may apply.

Myrna and Daniel Raffkind established this scholarship in November 2000 in memory of their son, Benjamin Gimp Raffkind, to benefit students planning to attend Amarillo College or West Texas A&M University.

Eligibility

  • Applicant must be a graduating senior from a high school in the northernmost 26 counties of the Texas Panhandle;
  • Have a cumulative high school GPA of 80 (3.2 on a 4.0 scale); and
  • Exhibit community service and leadership.

Scholarship Amount

$500/semester for up to 8 semesters

Scholarship Requirements

Each semester's payment is contingent upon meeting the following:

  • Recipient must attend college the fall semester immediately following selection;
  • Maintain full-time student status (typically 12 credit hours/semester for undergraduate studies);
  • Maintain a 2.0 or better cumulative GPA while in college; and
  • Attend any accredited college/university and major in their field of choice.
