Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship

Overview
The Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship awards high-achieving Indiana high school and college students up to $10,000 per year, renewable for as many as four academic years. Recipients agree to teach full-time for five years at an eligible Indiana school after graduation; if they do not fulfill the service obligation, the scholarship funds received will be converted to a prorated loan that must be repaid.
Who may apply (basic eligibility)
- Indiana resident.
- U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen.
- Current Indiana high school senior or an Indiana college student (freshman or sophomore students are eligible).
- Graduate of, or on track to graduate from, an Indiana-accredited high school or a non-accredited non-public high school in Indiana.
- Able to make use of the scholarship for at least two full academic years.
- Must plan to enroll or be enrolled full-time at an eligible Indiana postsecondary institution; in limited situations, degree-seeking students may apply scholarship funds to summer term coursework while enrolled part-time (see program-specific guidance for summer use).
Academic standards (must meet at least one)
- Rank within the top 20% of the high school graduating class; or
- Attain a score in the top 20% on the ACT or SAT; or
- Hold a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
Program obligations and renewal conditions
- Pursue an academic program that leads to Indiana teaching licensure and obtain an Indiana teaching license.
- After graduating, teach full-time for five years at an eligible Indiana school.
- Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) while enrolled, complete the equivalent of 30 credit hours per academic year, and satisfy any additional renewal requirements set by the program to continue receiving the award.
- Submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year while receiving the scholarship.
- Not be in overpayment or default on any federal student loan or grant.
Failure to complete service
If a recipient does not complete the five-year teaching commitment, all scholarship funds provided will be converted into a loan on a prorated basis that must be repaid.
Priority
Priority consideration is given to students who are graduating high school, although eligible college freshmen and sophomores may also apply.
