Introduction
The Schiller Kessler Group has long supported clients who face life-altering medical diagnoses, helping them obtain recognition and adjust to new health realities. In support of students who have faced similar challenges, the firm is launching The Healing Journey Scholarship to assist a student in continuing their education.
Scholarship award
The Healing Journey Scholarship will provide one recipient with a $2,500 award. The scholarship is open to an undergraduate or graduate student who has received a life-changing medical diagnosis and is willing to share how that diagnosis altered their perspective and life path.
Who may apply
- Open to undergraduate and graduate students across all fields of study.
- Applicants must be enrolled in or have been accepted to an accredited college, university, or graduate school in the United States.
- Applicants must be U.S. residents, at least 18 years old at the time of enrollment, and in good academic standing.
- Applicants must complete the scholarship application form on this page and upload an essay in PDF format.
- Applicants agree to the scholarship’s terms and conditions and must provide basic personal and academic contact information (name, contact details, academic information).
Note: You are not required to submit medical records or other sensitive documentation detailing your diagnosis. However, any false statements or fabricated medical conditions will result in automatic disqualification.
Essay prompt
Write an original essay (maximum 1,000 words) describing how a medical diagnosis changed your life. You may cover effects on your physical health, emotional wellbeing, academic progress, social relationships, or other areas. Share lessons learned and any advice you would give to others working to rebuild their lives after a diagnosis.
Essay content and formatting requirements
- Length: up to 1,000 words.
- Presentation: double-spaced, 12-point font, one-inch margins.
- File format: save and upload the essay as a PDF to The Healing Journey Scholarship submission page.
- Filename format: “[Scholarship Name and Year] – [Student Name].”
- Include a clear, original title.
- Include a bibliography and citations if they are applicable.
- Add a header containing:
- Student’s full name
- Student ID number
- Name of the scholarship (The Healing Journey Scholarship)
- Name of the institution you will attend
- Mailing address for the institution’s financial aid office
- Financial aid office email address and phone number

Policy on originality and AI
- Essays must be the applicant’s own work and must honestly describe a real medical diagnosis and its impact.
- Applicants must not fabricate or misrepresent a medical condition.
- Use of AI-generated content is prohibited. Any application found to include AI-generated material will be removed from consideration.
Deadline and review timeline
All application materials—including the completed form and PDF essay—must be submitted by August 31, 2026. Incomplete or late submissions will not be considered.
The selection committee may take up to three months after the deadline to choose a recipient. During that review period, please do not contact The Schiller Kessler Group about the scholarship; the firm will not respond to inquiries regarding applications while selections are being made.
Terms, eligibility, and exclusions
Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria listed above and on the scholarship application page. Required conditions include:
- Enrollment at or acceptance to an accredited U.S. college, university, or graduate school
- Being at least 18 years old at enrollment
- U.S. residency
- Good academic standing
- Submission of required personal and academic information
- Submission of an original essay on the provided topic
The following are not eligible to apply:
- Employees of The Schiller Kessler Group and their children
- Previous recipients of The Healing Journey Scholarship
- Applicants unwilling or unable to be interviewed by a firm representative if selected
- Applicants who submit the same essay for multiple scholarships or reuse the same essay across multiple years
